TIRUCHY: While the national average of students pursuing higher education stands at 28 per cent and the Union government has targeted to increase it to 50 per cent by 2030, the Tamil Nadu average has already surpassed 48 per cent.
“Thus the State has been at the forefront of skill development and has set an example to the other states,” said the Minister for Higher Education Govi Chezhiaan on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the training programme for the Polytechnic faculty on the revised syllabus organised by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education, Govi Chezhiaan said, that Chief Minister MK Stalin is very particular about introducing modern technology in higher education and so he has been announcing new schemes and releasing adequate funds for the welfare of the student community.
Stating that the Naan Mudhalvan Scheme was introduced to ensure the students avail all facilities from the education department, the Minister said, the State has achieved a higher status in education due to the student-friendly schemes like Naan Mudhalvan, Puthumai Penn scheme, Tamil Puthalvan scheme, special reservation to differently abled students and the horizontal reservation of 7.5 per cent.
“We have also initiated steps to improve the quality of education through new syllabus and providing training to the faculty well in advance,” the minister said.
Meanwhile, the minister said that Tamil Nadu is at the forefront of educating women and presently 38 per cent of women pursue higher education in the State which is higher than the national average.
“While the national average of students pursuing higher education stands at 28 per cent and the union government has targeted to increase to 50 per cent by 2030. But Tamil Nadu has already achieved 48 per cent in the higher education average”, said the minister.
