When the star Poosam reaches the highest point during the Tamil month of Thai, Thaipoosam is celebrated. Apart from India, this day is celebrated in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, South Africa and a few other places where there is a significant presence of Tamilians. Yet, many of us are unaware that there is a science behind this festival. Our ancestors have been following certain special days which are considered so powerful that we receive divine energy on those particular days. Thaipoosam is one such day on planet Earth which helps us to receive enormous energy. It is a highly promising time to achieve success not only in finance and relationship but also in spiritual and personal transformation.

    Significance

On this day, Lord Murugan (who is considered as the life force of human beings) is said to have received the divine spear which has all the power to destroy the demons (evil power) which are seen as an obstacle for success and happiness in human lives. Muruga ‘vel’ represents infinite power to achieve liberation.

In reality, on this day, when your physical body is maintained under certain conditions, it is believed that you receive immense cosmic energy through which you can demolish every deep-rooted bad karma and ignorance which is the reason for all your sufferings. According to the shastras, to live a great life, one has to free oneself from bad karma and evolve them to live without ignorance.

In the first place, you need to know and identify your enemy before destroying it. This is the fundamental truth behind unstoppable success and happiness. Basically, the three enemies behind all our sufferings are fear, doubt and worries. All these are due to ignorance of thinking that we are just a human body. We fail to understand that we are more powerful than what we think of ourselves. We need to realise that we are a combination of a visible physical body and an invisible divine power. Therefore, when you meditate on this day, divine power is blessed with no other choice but to give you the power to remove all the bad karma which is the prime reason for all your suffering.

On this auspicious day, Lord Shiva (the creator of every creation) blesses all his ardent devotees as they sit in silence. Either you can meditate or sit in silence to receive the blessings from the divine. This is what is emphasized in Thiruppugazh which stresses the importance of remaining still, that is ‘Summa Iru’.

    Power and promise of Thaipoosam

On Thaipoosam, your body is designed to connect with the higher consciousness wherein you give a choice to experience divine energy within yourself or experience cosmic alignment. This is the power of this day and every pooja or prayer is planned accordingly. Thaipoosam promises you five things. On this day, you don’t have to necessarily recite mantras or slogans; the real benefit is experienced when we just sit in silence. This itself will give you the power to overpower all the enemies, remove the root cause of every disease and above all, install inner strength within you which is the primary requirement for peace of mind and happiness in relationship. The shastras also say that on this day, you get all the power to remove the ill effects of evil eye and jealousy.

    Symbolic representation

It is believed that this day also promises to resolve all your financial debts. Kavadi attam is a symbolic representation of debt bondage. As a sign of releasing our energy to allow divine energy to penetrate within us, the practice of piercing the spear is also commonly seen on Thaipoosam. But instead of such mechanical rituals, it’s good to just sit in silence or meditate and nobody can stop the flow of divine energy into your body.

    The unknown fact of Thaipoosam

This festival is observed in many places across the globe. Yazidis, an ancient group of people in Iraq, celebrate Thaipoosam in a grand manner by sitting in meditation. And they refer to Lord Murugan as Melek Taus. Lord Murugan who is considered as a God for the entire humanity is also known by the name Skanda - one who is the ruler of every celestial power and also the destroyer of every demonic power which is a rare combination. Hence by meditating on this day, you receive the power not only to remove the negative karma but also the power to rule your life. You may not rule the whole world but you will definitely take control of your life before life controls you with all the obstacles and difficult times. These are the things promised by the divine but it’s your responsibility to create a vision to achieve what you want in your career. You should set a goal to achieve success. So, before you sit in meditation, you need to realise that you must have a vision. The vedas say that if you wish to experience the dream life you want, you need to have a clear vision. Then the entire universe will pave way for you and nothing can ever block your path.

To conclude, on this day of Thaipoosam, Lord Murugan received the divine spear which is believed to possess the power to remove all the obstacles and achieve success in your life. This day also gives you the power to live with huge name and fame and above all, with good health and real happiness in relationship, for you and for the entire generation.

Wishing you a life full of peace, success & abundance.
