Police aspirant sticks chewing gum on head to look taller, disqualified

Police said Dayanidhi, 22, was disqualified and sent away with a warning. A total of 455 candidates appeared for the physical test for the post of Grade II police constable, jail warder and fireman posts under the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board in the Armed Reserve campus in Salem district on Friday.

While measuring the height of Dayanidhi, the cops found something odd about his hair and found something hidden inside. A thorough check revealed that he had hidden a chewing gum rolled into a ball on his head to increase his height.

Enquiries revealed that Dayanidhi had resorted to cheating as he fell short of a centimetre from the mandated 170 cm height requirement for joining the police force. He was then disqualified and sent out of the campus.

Of the 455 people who took part in the physical test after clearing the written exam from Salem and Namakkal districts, around 323 emerged successful on Friday.

In view of prevailing circumstances, the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Service Recruitment Board has kept recruitment on abeyance. Physical Measurement Test (PMT), Endurance Test (ET), Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Certificate Verifications at 15 centres in the State is temporarily suspended till further notice.

A 23-year-old youth collapsed and died while participating in the physical test conducted by the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board for Grade II cadre in Dharmapuri district on Friday. Police said Kavin Prakash from Sinthagampalli in Bargur, Krishnagiri district, had participated in the 1,400 metre sprint competition as part of the physical fitness test conducted at AR Grounds on the third day. Though he successfully reached the finish line, Kavin suddenly collapsed and was immediately administered first aid by a doctor’s team present on the ground and rushed to Dharmapuri Government Hospital. However, doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.
