Place order online, get textbooks at home: TN govt tells students

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, textbooks will be delivered to the students’ doorstep as the government has decided to launch online services via e-seva centres across Tamil Nadu. The facility would be available to both government and private school students.

Until now, textbooks were available online where students could either download it or take a print out.

The Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation will print the textbooks. Once printing is over, books will be manually transported as per requirement. Complaints had also been raised about distribution of textbooks being delayed due to various reasons.

A senior School Education Department official told DT Next that now, students could purchase textbooks online by registering themselves on the portal. “Officials from e-Commerce wing of the IT Department are developing an online shopping portal,” he added.

Stating that textbooks from elementary school level to higher school secondary stage will be displayed on the site, the official said, “Even parents could register and get the books. The payment could be done through debit/credit cards/ cash on delivery.”

Books will be shipped within 48 hours on all working days and in case of ruralareas, delivery will be done in three or four working days, he added.

The official added that a customer care service will also be available on the online portal. “All complaints, including delay in delivery, damage to textbooks and order issues can be sorted on the platform,” he further said.
