KN Nehru to allay fears on Prashant Kishor’s role
DMK president MK Stalin has engaged one of his trusted lieutenants KN Nehru to allay the fears of other districts secretaries complaining about the pact made with poll strategist Prashant Kishor’s I-PAC (Indian Political Action Committee).
Chennai
Stalin, DMK sources disclosed, has even got Nehru to ink his name as a witness in the agreement made with I-PAC. Apart from party organising secretary RS Bharati and a handful of highly placed leaders, Nehru was the lone district secretary present at Stalin’s house when the pact was inked.
Sources privy to the development said that Nehru would build confidence among district secretaries, who were apprehensive of their role after Prashant Kishor’s team takes over strategising for 2021 Assembly polls. “Many district secretaries feared that their position would be belittled and their control in the districts would be minimised by the strategist. They are aware that I-PAC would only correspond with Stalin, which was not the case with the previous strategist. So, district secretaries feared that they would be kept in the dark and only instructions would be given from the war room in Chennai,” said a DMK source close to the leadership.
“We were not surprised when Nehru was contacted by other district secretaries to learn about the contract conditions. Stalin was aware that it would happen. Hence, he roped in Nehru to convince and improvethe confidence of other district secretaries,” the source explained. Curiously, even Stalin had reservations aplenty in engaging professionals. It took some reasoning from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh to make up his mind on engaging I-PAC.
If sources in the party were to be believed, Andhra CM Jagan Reddy’s brother Anil was the deal maker for Stalin. Yes. A strong word from Anil Reddy had got the DMK chief into trusting I-PAC. Anilwas learnt to have compared DMK and YSRCP’s bidfor power.
Stalin was understood to have blinked after Andhra CM’s brother explained that this would be their last shot at power, failing which their ideological opponents would break the party.
Stalin raps CM over dual citizenship
Chennai: DMK president MK Stalin on Sunday said that Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has no idea about citizenship. Taking exception to Palaniswami’s statement that they would strive to get dual citizenship for Lankan Tamils, Stalin said the statement only shows that the CM has no basic understanding of citizenship even. Making claims on dual citizenship after voting in support of a Citizenship Amendment Act which has no provision to grant dual citizenship only shows that the CM does not have even a basic understanding of citizenship, Stalin said in a statement, appealing to the cadre and others to turn up in large numbers for the rally proposed by his party led opposition against the Citizenship Amendment Act on Monday.
