Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) leader Seeman on Saturday said that his party had won several posts in the recently-conducted rural local body elections and made significant inroads in local bodies.

“The NTK has won more than 120 panchayat presidents and hundreds of panchayat ward members. Our party has also won one panchayat union ward council seat in Nagercoil and this is a significant leap forward for our party,” said Seeman, while addressing the media, at Chennai Airport.
When asked about the NTK’s performance in the local body elections, Seeman said that usually local body elections are dominated by the power of money and caste. The ruling parties generally dominate the local body elections with the power of authorities and considering the circumstance the NTK has fared well.
“The voteshare of the NTK has increased from 4 per cent in the Parliament election to 10 per cent in the local body elections. Considering the impact of the ruling party in the local body elections, the performance of the NTK has increased considerably,” said Seeman.
Through the local body elections, the NTK has been taken to the remotest corners of the state, said Seeman.
He also said that his party has already commenced its preparation for the upcoming state Assembly election in 2021. “We will select candidates for all the 234 constituencies and will give them close to 18 months to work in their constituencies. Among the 234 constituencies, women will be given 50 percentage reservation where they will get 117 seats,” said Seeman.
When asked about ‘Nellai’ Kannan’s arrest, Seeman said ‘Nellai’ Kannan is one the renowned Tamil scholars in the contemporary era and the NTK sees the arrest of ‘Nellai’ Kannan as an insult not to a person but to Tamil and Tamils. BJP national secretary H Raja once said that if we throw stones at them, they will throw bombs, and this is a statement which instigates violence, but he was not arrested.
If leaders were to be arrested for their speeches no BJP leader would remain free, said Seeman.
