Retd govt docs to turn honorary profs
The decision by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) to appoint retired government doctors as honorary professors at the government medical college and hospitals across the state is likely to face legal resistance as members of the Doctors’ Association for Social Equality claimed that they will go to court to stall the initiative.

As per the circular issued by DME, the initiative was to rope in experts, who have more experience in the field, to help the patients and doctors. The posting would be given to the retired government doctors below 70 years, who could also have served in private sector in India or abroad.
The special committee formed under the DME have also been asked to look out for retired professors with administrative skills and maintain their National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH) accreditation.
The doctor’s association claimed that they will be filing a case against the committee for appointing honorary posts to retired government doctors.
“This initiative is to privatise the government hospitals in Tamil Nadu,” said Dr G R Ravindranath, general secretary of theDoctors’ Association for Social Equality.
