With the 10-day custodial interrogation into the killing of Special Sub Inspector of Police Y Wilson (52) by Kanniyakumari police coming to a close, the investigation team recovered clothes worn by accused A Abdul Sameem and Y Thoufeeq in Kerala on Thursday.

While the team had already recovered a gun and a knife, the latest recovery of their clothes, concealed by the accused,  could also prove vital for the probe. Clothes such as a black jeans, one white shirt and a blue check-shirt were recovered from a place near a prayer hall at Vatakara in Kozhikode district when they were brought there amidst tight security.

As part of the investigation, the team also took the accused to a barber shop, where they had their hair cut to falsify their identity, Kanniyakumari Superintendent of Police N Shreenath said.

Besides, a cell phone was also recovered, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kanniyakumari District Crime Branch, KP Ganesan, who’s the investigation officer, said.

Investigations revealed that Sameem wore a jeans pant and a shirt and Thoufeeq, the other accused, wore a track pant, which had already been recovered, and a shirt.

After committing the crime, the duo left their clothes before washing themselves in a mosque at Vatakara. Moments after recovering the clothes, the duo was taken to a garment shop, from where they bought new dresses. Subsequently, the accused were taken to the barber shop, which is located about 10 km away in Payyoli, a municipality town in the Malabar coast.

To falsify their identity and with intent to evade arrest, both of them had their hair-cut in the barber shop, where the hairdresser was also inquired.

They travelled in a bus after taking tickets at Rs12 each, DSP Ganesan said. Wilson was allegedly gunned down by Thoufeeq and Sameem in the night of January 8, while he was on duty at Kaliyakkavilai check post on Market road, located along the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border.
