Special trains for Big Temple consecration
The Southern Railway (SR) has announced several special trains to Thanjavur from Tuesday to Thursday to clear extra rush of pilgrims in view of the Kumbabhishekam at Brahadeeswarar Temple in Thanjavur.

Train no 06841 Tiruchchirappalli-Thanjavur DEMU special will leave Tiruchchirappalli at 12.10 hrs and reach Thanjavur at 13.30 hrs. Train no 06842 Thanjavur-Tiruchchirappalli DEMU special will leave Thanjavur at 14.00 hrs and reach Tiruchchirappalli at 15.30 hrs. The trains will stop at all the stations between Tiruchchirappalli and Thanjavur.Â
Train no 06116 Thanjavur-Mayiladuthurai special will leave Thanjavur at 09.45 hrs and reach Mayiladuthurai at 12.00 hrs the same day. Train no 06115 Mayiladuthurai-Thanjavur special train will leave Mayiladuthurai at 15.20 hrs and reach Thanjavur at 17.30 hrs. The above trains will stop at all the stations between Thanjavur and Mayiladuthurai.
Train no 06828 Thanjavur-Tiruvarur DEMU special will leave Thanjavur at 21.55 hrs and reach Tiruvarur at 23.30 hrs. Train no 06813 Tiruvarur-Thanjavur DEMU special will leave Tiruvarur at 04.15 hrs and reach Thanjavur at 05.45 hrs. Train no 06815 Karaikal - Thanjavur DEMU special will leave Karaikal at 09.30 hrs and reach Thanjavur at 13.00 hrs the same day. Train no 06812 Thanjavur - Karaikal DEMU special will leave Thanjavur at 14.00 hrs and reach Karaikal at 17.30 hrs the same day. The above trains will stop at all the stations between Thanjavur – Karaikal.
Thanjavur under CCTV surveillance
The entire Thanjavur city, especially the Big Temple surrounding, would be under CCTV surveillance as devotees’ inflow has been increasing day by day and on the consecration day more than five lakh devotees are expected, DGP JK Tripathy said in Thanjavur on Monday.
Tripathy, who presided over the review meeting on the security arrangements in view of the consecration of the Big Temple, asked the police to be polite with the devotees and avoid unnecessary arguments and ensure discharge of their duty in anexceptional way.
He also ensured about the CCTV surveillance in the city especially on the temple premises. The DGP was briefed that there were as many as 300 CCTV cameras, including the newly-installed 192, and they are kept across the temple premises, yagasalai venue and the key points in the Thanjavur city. This apart, as many as 12 temporary police outposts and 12 check-posts were established and the police are instructed to allow all the devotees after thorough inspection.
Around 5,500 police personnel are involved in the security checks, under the supervision of IG (Central Zone) A Amalraj and the DIGs Loganathan and Bhavaneeswari. All the vehicles would be allowed after thoroughcheck up.
Subsequently, the DGP inspected the police outposts established at the people gathering spots like Old and new bus stands, Railady, Tilagar Thidal and the entrance and the exit points of the Big Temple. The police were briefed on the VVIP entrance, entrance for the religious leaders and the common devotees.
Later, the DGP told the reporters that more than five lakh devotees are expected to visit on the consecration day and the police are instructed to people friendly and asked to ensure polite with the devotees.Â
