The protesting parents claimed that the headmaster had touched girls studying in Classes 4 and 5 inappropriately on Friday. The infuriated parents also faulted the police of trying to protect the accused and blocked the road resulting in traffic disruptions.

As they refused to withdraw protest despite talks, the police removed a few parents of girl students. Meanwhile, an audio of the headmaster apologising and pleading with the parent of a girl student to drop any further action against him has been circulated widely in the social media.

When the parent questions him for misbehaving with their child, the headmaster could be heard pleading to drop the case and says that he would even get a transfer for another school.

The issue triggered outrage with members of the SFI and the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) lodged separate complaints with Superintendent of Police Sujit Kumar on Tuesday, demanding action against the headmaster. In her petition, Radika, district secretary of the AIDWA, claimed that more than 13 girl children were sexually harassed by the headmaster.

“If a parent prefers a complaint in the local station, then the headmaster is sending goons to threaten them and withdraw the case. The police are trying to cover up the issue and officials of the education department have failed to act. A detailed probe should be conducted and severe action has to be taken against the headmaster,” she alleged.

Later, Chief Education Officer (CEO), Coimbatore, P Ayyannan, said that a departmental inquiry is underway against the headmaster. “Following complaints, I had issued an order transferring him to another school in Mullupadi near Kinathkuadavu. Further action will be taken based on departmental inquiry,” he said.
