MEA updates Stalin on covid-19 hit ship crew
Union External Affairs Minister Jaishankar on Thursday admitted that two Indian crew members aboard Japanese cruise ship “Diamond Princess” have tested positive for coronavirus and offered to extend all necessary assistance to them.

Jaishankar made the admission while responding to the SOS of DMK president MK Stalin who on Wednesday wrote to the Minister, seeking the his urgent intervention to rescue stranded Indians aboard the ship off the coast of Japan.
“Our Embassy @IndianEmbTokyo is in constant touch with the crew & passengers of #DiamondPrincess off Yokohama, Japan, rendering all necessary support & assistance. Passengers & crew are currently quarantined by Japanese authorities,” Jaishankar tweeted, tagging Stalin who heads the third largest party in the Parliament.
Offering to update Stalin on the issue, the MEA tweeted, “Two Indian crew members have tested positive for #coronavirus. Will keep you updated.” Quick to acknowledge the Minister’s prompt reply, Stalin again took to social media to thank Jaishankar for update and posted, “We hope that our Embassy officials will extend all legal & medical support for the crew and passengers; and provide their families with constant & timely information on developments.”
