Two AIADMK candidates and one TMC candidate for Rajya Sabha elections filed their nominations on Thursday at the office of Assembly Secretary K Srinivasan.Â
The three candidates KP Munusamy, M Thambidurai and Tamil Manila Congress leader GK Vasan submitted their nominations in the presence of AIADMK convenor O Panneerselvam and joint convenor Edappadi K Palaniswami.Â
The Election Commission of India issued notification to fill the six Rajya Sabha seats in the state and according to the notification, Friday was the last date for filing nominations. Among the six seats, DMK and AIADMK share three seats each.Â
The DMK was the first to announce its three candidates, but in the AIADMK camp there were several rounds of talks held in selecting the candidates. Finally, two senior leaders from the party Munusamy and Thambidurai were selected, but for the third seat AIADMK chose one of its alliance partners, Tamil Manila Congress.Â
For the second successive year, an alliance party in AIADMK camp has bagged the Rajya Sabha seat as in 2019 one of the three seats was given to PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss. The election for the six posts is scheduled on March 26 and all the six candidates in DMK and AIADMK are expected to sweep the polls.Â
