State stresses on use of e-vehicle, plans for more charging points

“To encourage the usage of electric vehicles Solar EV charging facility will be setup in any one of the government building in the State on a pilot basis at an estimated cost of Rs 75 lakh. If the project turns out to be successful it will be extended to other parts of the State,” said Thangamani, in the Assembly.

The State government has of late prioritised the usage of green energy and the State being the leader in the production of renewable energy has ambitious plans to setup mega green power plants in the State. Out of the total installed capacity of 31,894 MW of power, 50 percentage is renewable energy.

“Renewable energy being the source of clean and inexhaustible energy most of the countries have started taking steps to make increasing use of these alternative energy sources. Tamil Nadu isa pioneer in renewable energyhas installed capacity of15,779 MW of renewable energy. Also the emerging trend towards electric vehicles, with charging infrastructure, as well as electric storage infrastructure, would further contribute to the growth of non-fossil fuel energy,” said Thangamani.

Thangamani also announced that the State government would gradually shift towards the usage of electric vehicles. “For the use of officials attached to Tangedco and TANTRANSCO State will procure electric vehicles to the tune of Rs 1 crore every year. The purchase of electric vehicles will not just increase the usage of electric vehicles but will also increase the awareness on electric vehicles,” said Thangamani.

The Minister further said that in the first phase, three vehicles would be purchased for Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency at the cost of Rs 75 lakh.
