    Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy confirmed that the primary schools will remain closed on account of the coronavirus outbreak on Saturday when he met the reporters in the Madurai airport.

    Earlier, the announcement made by the Tamil Nadu Government to provide holiday for the primary schools in Kanyakumari, Nellai, Tenkasi, Theni, Coimbatore, Tirupur, and Nilgiri districts from March 16 to March 31 due to coronavirus outbreak was withheld until further orders. 

    The Government had announced holiday for the classes LKG and UKG (including pre-KG) for all the schools in Tamil Nadu. It had also announced holiday for the classes from LKG to 5th grade for the schools in the cities bordering Kerala. 
    On Friday, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami also held a multi-departmental review meeting to monitor the government’s efforts in preventing the spread of COVID-19. The decision to suspend classes was taken then. Health minister C Vijaya Baskar and secretary Dr Beela Rajesh also participated.
