In a botched-up delivery, an unborn baby was killed and the 19-year-old girl has been critically admitted at RSRM hospital, Royapuram, as her boyfriend tried to deliver the child with the help of YouTube videos near Gummidipoondi and plucked the child's hand out.

The girl was sent from the Ponneri Government Hospital in an 108 ambulance on Wednesday evening with severe pain and bleeding and the doctors at RSRM hospital who delivered the child said that it was stillborn, with one of its hands plucked. The man who accompanied the pregnant girl, S Sounder (27) of Kammarpalayam near Gummidipoodi, was handed over to the police station inside the hospital premises and investigation revealed shocking details.

Police said that Sounder, an LPG cylinder delivery boy, and the girl, a second-year college student, were in a relationship for over two years and the girl became pregnant. On Wednesday, she allegedly told Sounder that the child is about to be born after which they decided to perform the delivery on their own as they were not married yet. After watching a few YouTube videos on childbirth, Sounder took the girl to a cashew farm in the locality in his two-wheeler with gloves and blade to perform childbirth.

However, since he tried to pull out the child by grabbing its hand, he plucked the child's hand. Sensing the danger, he abandoned the limb, took the girl in her bike and rode it almost 25 kilometres to reach Ponneri Government Hospital. However, doctors there asked them to report to RSRM Hospital and sent them in an ambulance. While the girl has been critically admitted, Sounder was handed over to Pathirvedu police. A case has been registered and further investigation is on. Parents of the couple are also being interrogated.
