“We came to work in ice factories and ship building industries but now due to coronavirus we have lost our jobs and are made to stay in a congested place where there is no proper water and food facilities.
We urge the government to immediately rescue us,” S Devendiran, from Kallakurichi told DT Next.
The workers from Kallakurichi, Villupuram and Krishnagiri districts are working as labourers in Malim region, Goa. Another labourer Boovalagan said they are being forced back inside by the cops if they come out. Kallakurichi MP Gautham Sigamani and MLA A Prabhu are now in contact with them and have assured to provide them food and ensure they return to TN. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami also urged his counterpart in Maharashtra to provide food and shelter to the 500 labourers.
DMK president MK Stalin tweeted, “I am informed there are 430 Tamil families stranded in Indonesia, who wish to return to TN. I request @PMOindia and @ MOTamilNadu to help evacuate them so that they can get home safe and sound.”
