Vellore
Police said that Manikandan (32), a gypsy residing in Ambur suburbs, used to take orders over mobile phone and supply venison to many people on Sundays. Through regular supplies, he managed to get regular clients. During the lockdown also, he promised to supply venison. After getting a tip off, forest officials started monitoring his movements. On Sunday, Manikandan asked his clients to come to a spot in Ambur town and get the venison.
Meanwhile, forest officials reached the spot and nabbed him. Investigations revealed that Manikandan had killed a pair of wild cats and after skinning them had packed the flesh in bags to be sold as venison.
