    '108' technician, Tirupur's 1st corona victim

    The COVID-19 claimed its first victim in Tirupur district on Wednesday as a 22-year-old 108 Ambulance medical technician succumbed to the flu after developing sudden breathlessness while undergoing treatment at ESI Hospital here.

    Health Department officials said that the victim, a resident of Mangalam, had gone to his native Dindigul on June 9 and returned to Tirupur on June 13. Then, he developed fever and symptoms of COVID-19 and visited Tirupur Government Hospital on June 17 for testing.

    As swab samples tested positive for the infection on June 18, he was immediately admitted to ESI Hospital in Coimbatore.

    Though he was responding to treatment and remained stable, the youth suddenly developed breathlessness and suffered from bouts of severe vomiting on Tuesday night.

    Despite treatment, he died early on Wednesday. The officials said that the source of spread in him was not known as his entire contacts including family members and other staff tested negative.

    The deceased was not part of 108 Ambulance fleet deputed to transport COVID-19 positive persons. The body was cremated in Coimbatore as per the protocol of the Health Department.
