Pvt colleges in TN can collect fees in 3 parts

Ilango Henry Dass, Joint Secretary, Higher Education Department, on behalf of the Secretary, Collegiate Education department, submitted that the decision was made after examining the proposal submitted by the All India Private Educational Institutions Association in compliance with the HC directions. However, contending that the collection of fees at this juncture does not arise, the counter submitted that even semester examinations in all Engineering, Polytechnic, and Arts and Science colleges could not be held due to the lockdown. The reopening of many colleges is also to be decided, the counter said. “Colleges may have their own reserve funds accumulated by way of fee collections in previous years. They have to utilise this for payment of salary to teaching and non-teaching staff. Hence the argument that the management lack funds cannot be accepted,” the counter added.
The Association had sought to quash the GO which directed private colleges and schools not to compel students or parents to pay fees for 2020-21 and instead permit them to collect fees to pay salary. The case will be heard before Justice N Anand Venkatesh on Friday.
