Officials implement turn system from Kallanai as inflow into Mettur dwindles
Officials commenced the turn system of water release from the Grand Anicut (Kallanai) to ensure water availability for both kuruvai and samba cultivation in Cauvery Delta from Monday.

They urged the farmers to make use of water accordingly. The water level in Mettur Dam stood at 75.66 feet on Monday with a storage of 37.76 tmc. While the inflow to Mettur was 224 cuesecs, the outflow was 13,000 cuesecs. So, the officials have decided to follow the turn system from Monday evening.
According to the schedule, from July 13 to 19 the release of water at Vennaru would be 6,500 cusecs while Cauvery would have only 100 cusecs, Kallanai Canal would have 2,000 cusecs and Kollidam 1,000 cusecs. And the next turn which would commence from July 19 evening to 25 evening will have 6,500 cusecs released into the Cauvery, while Vennaru would get 100 cusecs, Kallanai canal would have 2,000 cusecs and Kollidam would have 1,000 cusecs. According to the Cauvery Basin Circle Superintendent Engineer, S Anbarasan, apart from the main schedule, the Kalannai canal would have two schemes with west and east part release.
