Gun, cartridge making equipment seized from Tiruporur DMK MLA’s godown
The noose seems to be tightening around Tiruporur MLA Idhayavarman, who was arrested last week in connection with a firing incident that took place during a clash between his group and that of a real estate businessman over a land dispute, as Chengalpattu district police seized one more gun and equipment to make cartridges and grains from his warehouse late on Wednesday night.
Chennai
A team led by ASP Sundaravathanam searched the MLA’s house and the warehouse where they store vegetables and rice and found the entire setup hidden there. “There is no licence for the arc rifle and its capacity is being probed. We suspect that it could be used for hunting. Since it has a riflescope attached to it, the range it can fire at could be more,” he said. Along with the rifle, the team also seized equipment needed to make cartridges including empty shells, gun powder and lead balls. The official said it is illegal to make cartridges without permission. “The cartridges were meant for shotgun,” he added. in connection with the incident. While a single barrel breech gun and a pistol were already seized by the cops after Idhayavarman and his father Lakshmipathy fired at real estate businessman Imayam G Kumar, police made a surprise check and seized the weapons.
The district police also arrested M Sivakumar (39) of Perungudi, R Arumugam (42) of Kannagi Nagar, N Devaraj (24) of Kannagi Nagar, M Mohan (24) of Kannagi Nagar and A Prem kumar (31) of Kannagi Nagar and 22 others including Kumar and Idhayavarman have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, posters condemning the DMK MLA’s family were seen across Tiruporur and Mahabalipuram.
