The police from Kudankulam in Tirunelveli district had filed a case against one Siluvai and his friends for playing cards at a private land in the village and Siluvai prayed the court that the case can be quashed as they had neither obstructed the footpath of the particular village nor created inconvenience to the public.

Justice B Pugalendhi who heard the plea said that the Tamil Nadu government had prevented the sale of physical and online lottery tickets since 2003 to prevent the addiction towards gambling which had affected the people both young and old who had been spending their money and time.

However, the Justice observed that presently, the people have been squandering money in online games including rummy, card games and other such online games. This affected the people particularly, the youth who have been wasting their valuable time and even lost their ability to think which leads to untoward consequences for the society.

Justice Pugalendhi noted that even the educated and unemployed youths are spending more time and wasting money by involving themselves with these online games.

Pointing out that the recent ordinance by Telangana state amended the Telangana Gaming Act 1974 that banned these online games involving real cash, Justice Pugalendhi, observed that the Central and state governments should pass laws banning such online games, including rummy and card games for the welfare of the youth.
