Passenger Trains and Private buses to resume inter-district operations from Sept 7: TN CM
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister announced that the passenger trains and private buses will be permitted to operate from September 7.
Chennai
As a part of Unlock measure, the Tamil Nadu Government had announced that the public transport including bus services will resume in the state from Sep 1 with SOPs.
After the state government had relaxed the lockdown curbs, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) resumed its services from Tuesday after 161 days, 6,090 buses were operated across the State as against the total fleet strength of 22,000 buses. The Government had earlier announced that no inter-district travel was permitted for the time being and the buses were permitted to run within the district limits.
Apparently, even while the Tamil Nadu government has relaxed Covid-19 lockdown restrictions by permitting intra-district bus operations, private bus operators had decided not to resume their services any time soon as they said operating buses within the districts will not be profitable and have decided to follow a wait and watch approach.
Meanwhile, after considering their request Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Edappadi Palanisamy announced today that the passenger train services and the private buses are allowed to operate in inter-district level. This announcement was welcomed by the private bus operators. According to the GO the private buses and the passenger trains will resume their operations from September 7.
It is to be noted that the Metro Rail services will also begin from September 7.
