    Caste leaders won’t be allowed to visit Ramnad memorial

    With the death anniversary of slain Dalit leader Immanuel Sekaran is around the corner, police have sounded an alert about possible preparation of caste leaders from across the State travelling towards to his memorial in Ramanathapuram. All city Commissioners and District Superintendents of Police have been asked to take enough measures to avoid people thronging Paramakudi to pay tributes.

    Ramanathapuram SP, in a note, sent to all police Commissioners and district heads of police said that all political and community leaders should be told that there is no permission to travel to the memorial of Immanuel Sekaran, who was murdered in 1957 allegedly by members of another caste. The district police had already issued an order saying that the public will not be allowed to pay tributes to their leader on September 11 given the existing pandemic situation. A maximum of 5 leaders from registered political outfits can pay tribute to the slain leader after getting permission from district administration for themselves and their vehicles. Wearing of masks and maintaining proper social distance is mandatory.

    Police had also banned the use of taxis, open-type vehicles, two-wheelers, tractors, vans and cycles during the visit.

    Vehicles are not supposed to have any weapons and any caste-related posters. Those visiting the memorial are also advised not to use speakers. Any kind of march towards the memorial is strictly banned.
