On suspicion, the police detained Sharif (28), a former staff in the quarry. During the inquiry, he allegedly confessed that he was the one who planned the robbery along with 10 of his friends in the locality, who lost their jobs in the lockdown. The police said that Sharif, who knows where the money was kept in the office, planned to take it and share it with his friends.
Based on the information from Sharif, the police arrested Sharif, Govardanan (21) of Tiruvallur, Maharaja (23), Abdul Kadar (22) and five others. They also recovered Rs 6.5 lakh from the accused. The police are searching for two others, who are absconding.
