The move is aimed to remove the hassles of COVID infected persons from desperately reaching out to private and government hospitals to know the availability bed for admission.

The public can now get the information by logging into www.kovaicare-ccmc.com, said a statement. Currently, the hospitals in Coimbatore have 1,713 beds vacant in the general category, 306 oxygen beds and 59 with ventilator support facilities.

Continuing with its trend of decline in new infections over the past few days, the district on Tuesday reported 434 cases, taking the total to 35,000. Also, 4,837 persons are under treatment for the infection.

Meanwhile, a 49-year-old mechanic committed suicide by hanging under the fear of being infected by COVID-19. The police said that Maheshwaran, a mechanic from Seeranaickenpalayam near RS Puram, had become sick and stayed home without going to work for over the past four days. His family members took him to a private hospital in Peelamedu, where he was subjected to a COVID-19 test on Monday.

Though the results are yet to be known, Maheshwaran, fearing a positive result, took the extreme step. On receiving information, the RS Puram police rushed to the spot and sent the body for a post-mortem examination at Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
