TPDK plan protest at Raj Bhavan

Members of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) in Coimbatore have planned to lay siege to Raj Bhavan in Chennai on October 23 to protest against Governor Banwarilal Purohit for delaying approval to the state government’s legislation to provide 7.5 per cent reservation to government school students in medical admissions.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, TPDK general secretary K Ramakrishnan said that the Governor is acting at the behest of the BJP at the Centre by not approving the 7.5 per cent reservation passed in the Assembly. “Any further delay in granting approval may rob the opportunities of students from rural areas and also shatter their dreams of entering the medical profession. The Governor adopted similar tactics while deciding on the release of seven Tamils in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case,” Ramakrishnan said. Similarly, the TPDK has decided to present bouquets to actor Vijay Sethupathi on October 21 at his residence while urging him to drop portraying cricketer Muralitharan who allegedly supported Rajapaksa’s government in killing innocent Tamils in the Sri Lankan civil war.
