May press for recall of Guv, warns CPM on Bill delay issue
CPM politburo member G Ramakrishnan on Tuesday warned that his party would be forced launch a protest seeking recall of Governor Banwarilal Purohit if he refuses to give his nod to the Bill seeking to provide 7.5 per cent horizontal reservations for NEET-qualified government school students in medical courses.

The party is also demanding the dismissal of MK Surappa as Vice-Chancellor of Anna University for functioning unilaterally.Leading a protest near Raj Bhavan, Ramakrishnan said that the Bill was sent to Governor’s consent on September 18, but till date, it is pending with him. “In the BJP ruled Karnataka, there is a 15 per cent reservations for rural students, including five per cent reservation of the students whose medium of instruction was Kannada in the medical courses,” he said, pointing out that the Governor could not reject the Bill passed by the Assembly as per the Constitution.
The CPM leader questioned the state government’s prolonged silence over Anna University VC Surappa writing to the Centre on the institute of eminence status. “Only after public outcry against the Vice Chancellor’s move, the state condemned his action,” he said, adding that the university should not be bifurcated and the VC should be sacked.
