No takers for new Pernambut bus stand
The new municipal bus stand inaugurated more than a week ago by Commercial Taxes Minister KC Veeramani on October 23 in Pernambut proved a dismal failure with not a single passenger using the facility to either board or alight here, sources stated.

“Absence of residential areas in the vicinity is the reason why the bus stand, built by real estate brokers in a bid to sell plots in the area, was not patronised” said Natamkar Akbar of Pernambut town. Constructed by private parties on donated land flouting many government rules, the move was opposed by the bus stand retrieval committee which wanted the local body to build it.
According to committee president G Suresh Kumar, “absence of patronage has resulted in private buses keeping away from the bus stand while government buses enter and leave just for conformity’s sake.”
“Though real estate brokers cajoled and coaxed a few passengers to use the new terminus some days ago and took pictures, things returned to normal when they left. Now only free roaming cattle occupy the Sathgar bus stand,” Suresh Kumar revealed.
Former councilor Meeranji Saleem said “as the facility is 2.5 km from town locals prefer to board buses from the present terminus after completing their shopping. We are now waiting for the court verdict on this issue as the terminus was built and inaugurated despite officials being informed that the issue was sub judice.”
