    Food Minister R Kamaraj said that efforts are being taken to shift people from vulnerable areas to special relief camps ahead of the landfall of Cyclone Nivar.

    Inspecting the vulnerable areas in Tiruvarur and the special camps established in the district on Tuesday, the Minister said that the state government has been taking precautionary measures ahead of the cyclone’s landfall on a war footing manner and as part of precaution all possible steps are being taken by the Tiruvarur district administration.

    He said that as many as 212 places are identified as vulnerable spots and 249 relief camps are established in the district and the people from these vulnerable areas would soon be shifted to the camps. The camps were provided with the basic amenities, including adequate stocks of food items, said the Minister.

    Subsequently, the Minister inspected the removal of water plants from the storm water drains and the irrigation canals to ensure free flow of water.

    Tiruchy sanitary staff in Cuddalore

    Meanwhile, the Tiruchy City Corporation has sent a team of 100 sanitary staff and sanitary inspectors, electrical staff, four dipper lorries and other basic equipment to the coastal regions of Cuddalore district as a precautionary measure. Corporation Commissioner S Sivasubramanian said, these workers would stay there until the entire works get completed. Earlier, they were also given a kit to be used.
