A total of 465 ambulances have been kept ready and GVK EMRI 108 ambulance service provider staff members have also been increased to handle the cases. Additional ambulances have been arranged in several districts, especially the ones near the seashore including Villupuram, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Pudukkottai and Ramanathapuram. “There are an adequate number of 108 ambulances ready to handle any emergency and if needed, more ambulance vehicles will be brought in from neighbouring districts. The district administration and state health department will work together,” the Minister said.

For poor network connectivity, public have been urged to access the nearest police station and government offices for ambulances. The 108-control room will work with the Fire Safety and Rescue control room, police control room and disaster management control room. Additional staff members have been put in charge to handle emergency calls and cases during the cyclone, the Minister said. In case of power-cut, the 108-control room is equipped with generators and arrangements for accommodation and food for the healthcare workers.

After the Directorate of Medical Education postponed the counselling for general category for MBBS/BDS courses, Health Department officials sent back 13 candidates and their parents to their native districts.
