DMDK asks dist secys to identify party strongholds
The DMDK top brass on Sunday asked its party district secretaries to identify the constituencies in which the party has majority vote share and can register wins in the upcoming Assembly elections.

“The Executive Committee (EC) and General Body (GB) meeting of the party has been planned in January and before the meetings, the district secretaries are asked to submit the list of constituencies where DMDK is more likely to win. The list will be discussed in the meetings and based on the deliberations, decision on alliance and other issues will be taken,” said sources in the DMDK.
The Sunday district secretaries meeting of the DMDK was held at its party head office in Koyambedu and after a long time party founder Vijayakant participated in the meeting. More than 60 district secretaries took part in the meeting in which alliance was the key issue discussed.
Recently, party leaders Premalatha Vijayakant and her son Vijayaprabarakan opined that party is ready to contest alone in all 234 constituencies but also added that DMDK is still part of the AIADMK alliance. The party leaders said that DMDK cadre want Vijayakant as the CM candidate.
In the meeting, when the issue of alliance was taken, the party cadre had once again expressed their desire to contest alone. “Majority of the party functionaries are with the view that DMDK should go alone in the election to recover the lost votes,” said sources.
During the discussion about the health of Vijayakant and whether he will be available for election campaigning, Premalatha had assured the party functionaries that Vijayakant will be campaigning, but only in the final phase.
It was also decided that as the health of Vijayakant is not in a good shape, the party is likely to demand Virugambakkam constituency for Vijayakant in AIADMK alliance, for easier campaigning.
MDMK, DMDK, TVK stand by farmers
MDMK leader Vaiko and DMDK on Sunday said that the respective parties will support the farmers across the country and will stand with the farmers. The DMDK in a resolution stressed the Central government to form a committee to bring the farmers protest to an end, urged the state to provide Rs 40,000 as compensation per acre to crops damage and to shut down Tasmac shops. Meanwhile, extending its support MDMK leader Vaiko said, “protesting the farm bills farmers across the country had called for rail and road roko, from Monday and in Tamil Nadu, farmers have decided to stage continuous protests in front of Collectorates. MDMK will join the farmers protest in front of Erode Collectorate and in other parts of the state. Meanwhile, Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi leader T Velmurugan called the farmers protest as the second independence movement. “Farmers protesting for their livelihood is not just a protest but a revolution. The protest is turning out to be the second independence movement where the entire country is fighting against the government that is functioning for corporates,” he said.
