Tokens to be issued for Pongal gift from Dec 26
The state government on Wednesday announced that distribution of tokens for Pongal gift hamper, including Rs 2,500 cash, would commence from December 26 and will go on till December 30.

“Tokens would be distributed in such a manner that not more than 200 ration cards can collect Pongal gift hamper on a particular day.
Among the 200 ration cards, arrangements will be made to distribute Pongal gift for 100 cards in the morning and for remaining 100 cards in the evening,” said Sajjan Singh R Chavan, Commissioner, Civil Supplies Department, in a circular.
Recently, CM Edappadi K Palaniswami in Salem announced Rs 2,500 in cash along with Pongal gift hamper for all the ration cards in the state. Following the announcement, state government allotted Rs 5,604 crore towards Pongal gift hamper and also added that Pongal gift would be distributed through token system. About the token system, Commissioner said that staggering system will be followed for distribution of Pongal gift.
“To prevent overcrowding of people to get Pongal gift staggering system will be followed where ration card holders of a particular street will be given the tokens to get Pongal gift on a particular day. Along with date, time slots for ration cards will also be mentioned in the tokens,” said Sajjan Singh.
The distribution will commence from January 4.
Those who could not get the Pongal gift on the date in the tokens, they can collect it on January 13.
