After 74 years of Independence, now there is a doubt whether the Constitution would continue to remain the same? Freedom of speech and human rights being denied. We are facing a dire situation long after the attaining the freedom. Now we have fought together like during the freedom struggle to protect the country and its constitution,” Nallakannu told his supporters gathered at his party office to celebrate his 96th birthday. Pointing out that farmers are the backbone of the country, he said that three legislations about the farmers were passed with mere six hours of discussion where many MPs were denied permission to speak. “The new legislation intended to corporatise the agricultural sector. Farmers have gathered in large numbers in Delhi to protest against the anti-farmer legislation,” he said, adding that the workers were being denied basic rights including the extension of working hours to 12 hours and the right to form a trade union. He called upon the public to struggle for the protection of the basic rights.
