    The central team commenced the visit to the Burevi cyclone affected districts on Tuesday to assess the crop damage.

    After the cyclone Nivar, the districts in the Cauvery delta and the coastal districts were affected by the cyclone Burevi which caused heavy rains in more than 23 districts in the state including the Cauvery delta districts and damaged more than seven lakhs of acres of crops including samba, thaladi and the horticulture crops like shallots and banana.

    An eight member central team including Ministry of Home Affairs Joint Secretary Ashutosh Agnihotri, Director of Oil Seed Development of Ministry of Agriculture Dr Manokaran, Regional Officer of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Rananjay Singh and Deputy Director of Ministry of Finance Amit Kumar was deputed to assess the damage in Pamban and Mandapam. They assessed damages in coastal areas and enumerated damaged fishing equipment and boats.

    In the afternoon, they visited Alangudi in Pudukkottai district and assessed the crop damage caused by Burevi. They also visited Mayiladuthurai district. The farmers insisted on the fast disposal of compensation as they have been facing heavy loss due to the damage by the Nivar cyclone.
