Tamil Nadu student commits suicide over sexual harassment

After preliminary enquiry, the police said the victim returned home around 5.30 pm on Friday after attending NEET coaching classes. 

After reaching home, the girl contacted her mother to come home early so together they could celebrate Karthigai Deepam. 

The mother who reached home sometime after, found the house dark and locked from inside. 

When her daughter didn’t respond even after repeated calls, the mother rushed to her relatives residing nearby and broke open the house only to find her daughter hanging from the ceiling.

The grief-stricken family informed the Vengamedu police who rushed to the spot and retrieved the body and sent it to the Karur Medical college hospital for post-mortem. 

The police recovered a note in which the girl stated that she hoped she to be the last victim of sexual harassment. Since she did not mention anyone’s name, the police went to the school and conducted inquiries. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
