Juvenile among 5 held for gangrape in Virudhunagar
Police after checking the CCTV footage in the area near the function venue and other nearby places, identified the culprits and arrested five of them on Tuesday.
MADURAI: In yet another case of gang-rape, a 40-year-old woman was abducted and sexually assaulted by a group of seven, including a juvenile, near Aruppukottai, on Monday. Of the seven, five were arrested on Tuesday.
According to the police, the woman was returning in a car after attending a function in Virudhunagar. Meanwhile, two persons on a bike and five others in a car followed her. At one point, the gang overtook and stopped their vehicles in front the woman’s car. Then the gang members attacked the car driver and abducted the woman in their car to a secluded spot, where all the seven sexually assaulted her.
Later, the 7-member gang robbed the jewels and abandoned her some distance away from the crime spot near Aruppukottai before fleeing.

The police, besides seizing the bike and the car used by the accused, also recovered the jewels, cell phone and cash stolen from the victim. Aruppukottai Taluk police have registered a case and have launched a search for the other two accused.
