DMK: Tabling of Justice Aruna’s report will unearth truths
Recently, former chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami criticised the government claiming that the law and order situation in the state has deteriorated and the ruling DMK government failed to maintain law and order.
CHENNAI: The official mouthpiece of DMK Murasoli, on Wednesday said that when the report of Justice Aruna Jagadeesan Commission is tabled in the Assembly several truths about the Thoothukudi police firing would come to light.
“Justice Aruna Jagadeesan Commission report was submitted to Chief Minister MK Stalin and the report was discussed in the Cabinet meeting in which it was decided to table the report in the Assembly. The commission has recommended action against 17 policemen and four officials, including former Thoothukudi Collector. If the report is tabled in the Assembly several truths about Thoothukudi police firing will be revealed,” said Murasoli.
Recently, former chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami criticised the government claiming that the law and order situation in the state has deteriorated and the ruling DMK government failed to maintain law and order. Replying to Palaniswami’s charges, the paper recalled the Thoothukudi police firing in which 13 persons were shot dead and the comments made by Palaniswami after the firing.
“When reporters questioned Palaniswami about the Thoothukudi police firing he replied that he had no idea about the incident and he too saw the incident on the television. Palaniswami also avoided visiting Thoothukudi after the incident and made a secret visit after shutting all the shops. Has Palaniswami thought that people have forgotten the police-firing incident. People will not forget the incident and the law and order situation that was prevailing in the state during his tenure,” the article read.
The DMK mouthpiece also said that the former government headed by Palaniswami staged a drama in the firing incident by initially supporting Sterlite Copper by ordering police firing at the protesters who protested peacefully for 100 days and then when the issue became a national sensation they issued a closure notice to the copper plant through the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.
