Annamalai writes to Shah on deteriorating Law & Order in TN

CHENNAI: BJP state president K Annamalai on Saturday said that he has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the deteriorating law and order situation in the State amid incidents of petrol bombs being hurled at the BJP office bearers' residence and party office across Tamil Nadu.

He also said that senior party functionaries met DGP C Sylendra Babu and submitted a petition, seeking police protection.

Speaking to reporters at Tambaram, he said police had not made any arrest in connection with 19 incidents of attacks on BJP workers in Coimbatore and other parts of the State.

“Our representatives have urged the DGP to ensure necessary security arrangements to leaders and functionaries of BJP, protection to BJP offices and other allied organisations. We have also sought the arrest of those involved in anti-national activities as a precautionary measure,” he said.

In the letter to Shah, Annamalai said that the petrol bomb and damaging private party have become the norm of anti-national forces, which the DMK government is finding hard to reign in. “The recent attacks on our leaders and karyakartas can be reasonably attributed to the actions taken by NIA and ED against the Popular Front of India,” he claimed.

The BJP leader told reporters that what was happening in the state was contrary to Chief Minister MK Stalin’s statement that Tamil Nadu is a peaceful State. “The police has arrested over 100 cadres of BJP who protested against DMK leader A Raja’s speech. But, no one was arrested in connection with a petrol bomb attack in 19 places,” he said, expressing confidence that the State government and police to take necessary action. “Our patience too has limits. We will wait for two days and see what they do and decide on our next course of action,” he said, adding that the Centre would not keep quiet on the issue and they could intervene if the State government failed to take necessary action in matters involving security.

Meanwhile, AIADMK spokesperson D Jayakumar said that the Union government should take action against the DMK government for deteriorating law and order. "Bomb blasts have become normal. The DMK government is moving towards Article 356 of the Constitution. The government should control the violence and protect the people. But, it is keen on foisting false cases against the opposition, " he told reporters.
