CHENNAI: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been moved before the Madras High Court for a direction to the Tamil Nadu Government to take over the management of Latha Education Society under which a private school in Kaniyamoor village of Kallakurichi district is functioning.

ML Ravi, president of Desiya Makkal Sakthi Katchi filed the petition for an interim direction to appoint a special officer to control the administration of the school until the disposal of the petition.

He further sought direction to the School Education Department to consider his representation dated September 14 for taking over the control of the school for the sake of the safety and protection of 6,000 students in the school.

The petitioner claimed that the petition was filed for the reason that a girl student, who studied in the school, died in a mysterious condition and subsequently a protest seeking justice for the death of the girl turned into massive violence.

“The reason for the girl’s death is yet to be known and investigation for both the death and violent protest is under way. In such circumstances, the school should not be handed over to the same management, putting the lives of students at risk and parents in distress,” the petitioner said in his affidavit.

Ravi further stated that the same kind of issues had occurred in the past too. “The antecedents of the school management activity confirm maladministration in its institutions. The management has willfully failed to prevent the unlawful activities inside the school,” the petitioner noted.
