    Farmer injured after country bomb exploded in farmland

    CHENNAI: A 34-year-old farmer in Chengalpattu district was injured while working in his farm near Acharapakkam after a country bomb which was left hidden in his farmland exploded.

    The injured farmer was identified as Venkatachalam of Athivakkam village in Maduranthakam taluk.

    On Saturday evening, Venkatachalam was working at his farm and was using a spade to weed out the overgrowth. When he was digging into the land, there was a loud explosion and Venkatachalam got thrown away.

    Workers in the nearby farm lands rushed to the rescue and alerted the authorities. He was moved in an ambulance to the Chengalpattu government hospital, where he is being treated.

    Orathi police personnel, who received information about the incident, rushed to the hospital and gathered information from Venkatachalam. On assessing his farm land, police found remnants of a country bomb.

    Investigations are under way to find who had hid the country bomb in the farmland.
