Stalin inaugurates Rs 300 cr worth projects in Tiruchendur temple

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday inaugurated projects worth Rs 300 crore for Lord Subramaniaswamy temple in Tiruchendur, one of the six major abodes of Tamil God Lord Murugan.
Stalin inaugurated the projects through video conference from the State Secretariat. The works were executed in continuation of the announcement made by the State government in the demand for grants for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR & CE) department for 2021-22 financial year that the government would undertake works to the tune of Rs 150 crore in Tiruchendur temple.
As a sequel to the announcement, the government executed infrastructure projects, including improvement of basic amenities in the temple to the tune of Rs 200 crore through donation from Vamasundari Investment Pvt Ltd. The completed projects include queue and waiting area for pilgrims, pedestrian path, medical centre and resting facility besides control centre for the public announcement system, cloak room, dining facility for pilgrims (Annadhanam) and fire prevention infrastructure.
The inaugurated projects worth Rs 300 crore, including 100 crore of the temple funds also includes lodging, laundry, health centre, bus stop, marriage hall, panchamirtham preparation facility, staff quarters and retention walls to prevent sea erosion on the eastern flank of the coastal temple. A statement issued by the government in this regard said that this is the first time when works of such magnitude were executed since the inception of the HR and CE department in 1951. State HR and CE minister P K Sekar Babu, Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, chief secretary V Iraianbu and state HR and CE secretary K Chandramohan were also present during the inauguration.
