CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday released the list of public holidays for the year 2023.
According to the list, there are 23 holidays for government offices and an additional holiday on April 1 for commercial and cooperative banks.
However, to the disappointment of many including government employees, most of the festivals fall on Sundays in 2023.
New Year (January 1), Pongal (January 15), Thai Poosam (February 5), Ganesh Chaturthi (September 17) and Deepavali (November 12) are the major festivals falling on Sundays.
Apart from them public holidays will be observed on Thiruvalluvar Day (January 16), Uzhavar Thirunal (January 17), Republic Day, Telugu New Year Day (March 22), Mahaveer Jayanti (April 4), Good Friday (April 7), Tamil New Year and Dr BR Ambedkar's Birthday (April 14), Ramzan (April 22), May Day, Bakrid (June 29), Muharram (July 29), Independence Day, Krishna Jayanthi (September 6), Milad-un-Nabi (September 28), Gandhi Jayanti, Ayutha Pooja (October 23), Vijaya Dasami (October 24) and Christmas.
