    Review meeting on Jal Jeevan Mission held with Union govt officials

The number in the State is higher than the national average of 53.96 per cent. The target for the first and second quarter of this year is 12.10 lakh.

    CHENNAI: A review meeting on Jal Jeevan Mission projects being implemented in Tamil Nadu was held today under the chairmanship of Union Minister of Water Resources, Gajendra Singh Sekhawat, Minister for Municipal Administration, Urban and Water Supply, KN Nehru and Rural Development Minister KR Periyakaruppan.

    As per a release from the department, out of total 124.94 lakh houses in Tamil Nadu, 69.50 lakh, which is 55.63 per cent houses, have been provided with drinking water pipe connections. The number in the State is higher than the national average of 53.96 per cent. The target for the first and second quarter of this year is 12.10 lakh.

    In Tamil Nadu, at least 16.25 lakh drinking water pipe connections have been provided, which is more than the target and achieved a record of 134 per cent. The target for the year 2022-23 is 28.48 lakh, and 16.51 lakh drinking water pipe connections have been provided so far and the remaining pipe connections are being provided.

    The meeting also discussed the vital water movement projects being implemented in Tamil Nadu and their timeliness. Tamil Nadu is the lowest river water consuming State and to ensure the sustainability of drinking water schemes, it was discussed to request a special scheme to improve the ground water by implementing special schemes and using the surplus water flowing in the main rivers to fill the nearby waterbodies and augmenting the ground water supply.
