Thanjavur Big temple closed amidst coronavirus surge

After the announcement, the devotees were asked to leave the temple around 11 am on Wednesday. Devotees who entered the temple after 11 am were sent back by the temple officials.

Due to the coronavirus surge, Thanjavur Big temple has been closed till March 31. Regarded as one of the iconic monuments in the world, Thanjavur Big temple is also a popular tourist spot. 

The temple management has announced that poojas will be held inside the temple premises daily as per the temple schedule. Post-kumbabishegam, the temple has been witnessing increasing crowd from both tourists and temple devotees. 

After the announcement, the devotees were asked to leave the temple around 11 am on Wednesday. Devotees who entered the temple after 11 am were sent back by the temple officials. Likewise, Tharasuram Iraavadheswarar temple has also been closed due to coronavirus fears.
